Since the knights serving under "Henry the Lion" crossed the Elbe in the 12th century and began with colonizing the East, expansive buildings were erected. Thus, the large estates with their mansions and historic farm buildings, with their patronage churches and magnificent landscaped parks have characterized the land for so long.

houses, or more correctly, mansions, bear witness to bygone days. More
than 300 of them have been restored during recent years and are now
open for tourists.
